Woo Hoo! This is the birthday and deathday week. And this could be the week of a tiny bit of creative mayhem in your classes.
On Saturday, the 23rd, the Folger will host an international live streaming event—called The Wonder of Will LIVE — from our historic Paster Reading Room. Broadcast live via C-SPAN2 and streamed at Folger.edu, all kinds of famous people — including United States Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer; actor and President Obama’s appointed Associate Director of the White House Office of Public Engagement, Kal Penn; and the hilarious Reduced Shakespeare Company — will share their personal connections to Shakespeare through stories and performances. In our eyes, of course, the most famous of all are Francisca Piantini, a DC high school senior; Donna Denize, a DC high school teacher, and Kaya Henderson, our beloved Chancellor of DC Public Schools. YAY!
You and your students: participate in 2 ways —
- Text Shakespeare a birthday message! Starting RIGHT NOW, you and your students can take a quick classroom moment to send Shakespeare your birthday wishes. Each student or class period — and you — should text a birthday message of 20 or fewer words, including (a) first name (or class period), (b) school name, and (c) state, to William Shakespeare at this number: 414-4-FOLGER (414-436-5437).
We’ll share these greetings with the world via blog and social media posts. AND… we’ll highlight some of your birthday greetings during the live show, so be sure to watch.
- Tune in. From 12:00 noon to 1:30 PM ET on April 23, 2016, watch the live streaming program at Folger.edu or on C-SPAN2 Book TV. Yes, it’s a Saturday. And yes, it’s a Saturday in the spring. But it’s historic! And listen for your birthday greetings!
We’ve already heard from many of you and your students… to read birthday messages from around the country, check us out on Twitter: @FolgerEd.
Come join us . . . ! We don’t want to do this without you!
Where there’s a Will (every week)!
